From the time I was four years old, my big dream was to go to Disneyland. Unfortunately, that dream wasn't realized until twenty years later. But it didn't matter, because from the moment I walked under the train station arch and out onto main street, I was hooked! A full-fledged, down-to-my-core, Disney Freak, with a capital F! I love everything about it....the sights, the sounds, the smell.
Why, I can almost smell the musty cave, and gun-powder in
The Pirates of the Caribbean right now!
So, it is with much love that I put together this page of
Disney lore, trivia, and secrets.
I hope you enjoy it!

A Little Disney parks Trivia:
Fun Facts To Know and Tell!

1. When Disneyland opened on July 17, 1955, it contained only 18 attractions, in four "lands"- Frontierland; Adventureland; Tomorrowland; and Fantasyland.
At that time, there were 7 hotels and motels, totaling 87 rooms, and only 34 restaurants in all of Anaheim. Today there are more than 150 hotels and motels with over 17,927 rooms, and around 450 restaurants.

2.Disney World's 51,000 employees make it the nation's largest single-site private-sector employer.

3. The rockets in Space Mountain attain a top speed of 30 M.P.H.

4. Disney's first Audio-Animatronic™ show was the Enchanted Tiki Room.

5. During the busy seasons, over 10,000 "cast members" work at Disneyland.

6. The Matterhorn was the first steel track roller coaster ever built.

7. Disneyland has about 20 million gallons of water in its man-made "Rivers of America" and meandering streams.

8. Disney is the largest consumer of fireworks in the world, using 700 pounds every night!

9. There are in excess of 100,000 light bulbs in Disneyland, and all are replaced at approximately 4/5 of their life expectancy.

10. There are over 800 different kinds of plants in Disneyland, from 40 different nations, including about 5,000 trees and 40,000 shrubs. All the greenery is watered by a system of 50,000 sprinklers.

11. That music you should be hearing is "Baroque Hoedown", but it's more commonly known as "The Main Street Electrical Parade". The parade made it's final trip down Disneyland's Main Street in October, 1996. After a few seasons at Florida's Magic Kingdom in Disney World, it came home to Anaheim and now appears at Disney's California Adventure.

12. Disney World, with four theme parks and seven resort hotels, is the largest single tourist destination in the world.

13. Disneyland has more than a thousand Audio-animatronic™ displays.

14. Over 25 tons of trash is collected on an average day.

15. In Disneyland's secret Club 33, there is a microphone hidden in the middle of a chandelier. The microphone was to be used as a way for Walt to have fun with his dinner guests, and to improve the quality of table service. The plan was, Walt would be in another room listening to the conversation. When something interesting was said, Walt could respond via a speaker located near an Audio-Animatronic™ vulture. Sadly, Walt died before the club opened, and due to later privacy concerns, the system was never fully installed.

"THANKS FOR STAYING..."--Eeyore

The Walt Disney Company commemorated Mickey Mouse's 70th Birthday on November 18th, 1998; marking the day STEAMBOAT WILLIE debuted.
But this was not Mickey's first performance! I'll let Walt Disney tell you about the birth of Mickey Mouse:

"I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing -- that it was all started by a mouse.........The first time I met Mickey, he was a hungry looking young mouse. He was so poor that he didn't even own a pair of shoes. The picture was called PLANE CRAZY. Now, that was the year that Lindbergh flew the Atlantic."

--Walt Disney
in the intro for PLANE CRAZY on DISNEYLAND, the television show.

PLANE CRAZY was the first Mickey Mouse cartoon made, but the third released. The first released was STEAMBOAT WILLIE; second - GALLOPING GAUCHO; and fourth - THE BARN DANCE. All four of the cartoons, including PLANE CRAZY, were released in 1928. The first Mickey Mouse cartoons had Walt himself giving voice to Mickey. Today, Mickey speaks through Wayne Allwine.

According to Walt Disney, Mickey Mouse received 800,000 fan letters in 1933. At an average of 66,000 letters per month, this exceeded the highest number ever achieved by a real person: 720,000, or an average of 60,000 per month addressed to seven-year old Shirley Temple in 1936.

As you can see, I love Disney trivia. I pick up bits and pieces all over, and scribble it on scraps of paper! And Disney movies are not without their secrets, too!

For instance, did you know that in Peter Pan, there were six other pirates, besides Smee and Captain Hook? Well, there were, and their names are: Bill Jukes, Black, Murphy, Mullins, Starkey, Skylights, and Turk. There were other lost boys too, besides Peter Pan himself, remember? Their "woodsy" nickname's were: Cubby, Foxy, Rabbit, the Raccoon Twins and Skunk.

"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" was ridiculed, and called "Disney's Folly" before its premiere in 1937, because no one believed that a full-length animated movie could possibly hold an audience's attention for over an hour.

Some unbelievable name's that were considered for the seven dwarfs: Biggo-Ego, Burpy, Puffy, Stuffy, and Wheezy!

When Walt Disney decided to make "Alice in Wonderland", he wanted to do it as a live action film, starring Mary Pickford as Alice!
Thankfully, he changed his mind and it was animated, with Ed Wynn as the Mad Hatter, and Jerry Cologna as the March Hare.
